Primimoda

Primimoda

1. The origin of style

2. Examines, exposes and advocates the inspiration of Africa in aesthetics. Like Orientalism. Primimoda articulates a narrative that demonstrates the influence of Africa in antiquities, classicism, modernism and the contemporary.

3. The Africanistes; e.g. Jespers, Daxhelet, Allard L'Olivier and Hallet, embraced the continent's primal spirit and created a body of fine art that exquisitely visually documents an important and particular time in world history, and at the same time Picasso, Braque and Brancusi were liberated by the primal arts creating the basis of modern art. The same African inspired modernism was expressed in the works of the royal French cabinet maker Ruhlmann and the brilliant furniture and decorative arts of e.g. Jean Michel Frank, Carlo Bugatti, Pierre Legrain and Diego Giacometti, some of the most sought after furnishings in the world.
